So today we are going to look at a vegetable that is extremely popular in people who are on a diet: Celery!

Why? Well because rumor has it that you actually burn more calories than you take in by eating celery. HUH?! I know…if this rumor is true, then for the love of God, please go buy yourself stalks of celery and eat away!

However, that is not what I want you to do. Yes, celery is a very healthy vegetable to corporate into your diet. Different part of celery actually carries different kinds of nutrients. The leaves is rich in vitamin A, while the stem is a wonderful source of vitamins B and C. The stem is also rich in various natural salts that are essential in the human body.

Along with its rich nutrients, celery also carries various kinds of health benefits! It is said that celery has the ability to relief inflammation, to lower cholesterol,to promote normal kidney functions, and to aid bowel movements. Why? For the sake of brevity, you just have to know this works because of science.

But is celery really a negative calorie food? No.

Yes, it is true that celery is a high fiber (in other words, high cellulose) food. If our body is to actually digest those 1,4-alpha linkages (the bonds that holds the cellulose fibers together), then yes, you will be burning more energy than you take in by eating celery. HOWEVER, let me repeat, HOWEVER, this is not the case. The Human digestive tract is not designed to digest cellulose. Instead, you simply push it out on the other end.

Should you eat celery? YES! Should you use that as the primary method to shed those extra calories? NO!
